Publication Ethics

Spes: Journal of Education and Language is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. The journal adheres to the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and addresses all aspects of ethical conduct in scholarly publishing, particularly issues related to research misconduct and publication malpractice.

This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process of Spes: Journal of Education and Language, including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, peer reviewers, and the publisher. The journal is dedicated to implementing best practices in ethical publishing, error management, and article retraction. Preventing publication malpractice is a fundamental responsibility of the editorial team, and any form of unethical behavior, including plagiarism in any form, is strictly prohibited.

Spes: Journal of Education and Language adopts and applies COPE guidelines to ensure high ethical standards for publishers, editors, authors, and reviewers. A clear articulation of publication ethics is essential to maintaining research integrity and enhancing the quality of scholarly work at the global level. The publisher has no authority to interfere with editorial decisions or the scholarly content of manuscripts and functions solely to support the publication process.


Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts are accepted, revised, or rejected for publication, based on evaluations conducted by the Editorial Board and peer reviewers.

Editors are accountable for all articles published in Spes: Journal of Education and Language and must ensure that editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of academic merit, originality, relevance, and clarity.

Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers when making final publication decisions.

Manuscripts must be evaluated objectively without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, political beliefs, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors.

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

Editors are responsible for ensuring a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other.

Editorial decisions must be communicated to authors along with reviewers’ comments, except where comments contain offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate language.

Editors should consider reasonable requests from authors to exclude specific reviewers, provided such requests are justified and feasible.

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts.

In cases of suspected misconduct, ethical violations, or authorship disputes, editors shall follow the relevant COPE flowcharts and procedures.


Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts ethically and to identify any potential research or publication misconduct.

Reviews must be conducted objectively, professionally, and within the agreed timeframe. Reviewers should promptly notify the editor if they are unable to complete the review.

All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others.

Reviewers must decline review assignments if any conflicts of interest exist between themselves and the authors or the research.


Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original, have not been previously published, and are not under consideration by another journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and for properly citing all sources in accordance with the journal’s referencing guidelines. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are strictly prohibited.

Authors must comply with the authorship criteria specified by Spes: Journal of Education and Language, as outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal or redundant publication derived from the same research is not permitted.

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study.

All listed authors must have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.

Authors must ensure that no personal or identifying information of research participants is disclosed, whether through text, images, or supplementary materials.

Authors are required to provide raw data or supporting materials upon editorial request in cases of suspected data fabrication or falsification.

Authors must promptly notify the editor if a significant error or inaccuracy is identified after submission or publication.

All potential conflicts of interest, including funding sources, consultancies, or intellectual property interests, must be disclosed transparently using the journal’s disclosure form.
